2023 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Iranian women's struggle
The International Ravensrück Committee has welcomed the award of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize to the Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi "for her struggle against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all". Narges, long imprisoned with a total sentence of 31 years, was also subjected to corporal punishment and sexual violence. Despite this, her resistance is steadfast, and she keeps up the determination of those who know they are fighting this battle for all Iranian women until the very end. Despite the fact that women, and part of civil society, are continuing their protests, the repression continues with no sign of easing, and according to the news of the last few days, the young activist Armita Geravan, aged 16, is in a coma in hospital after being beaten by the police for not wearing her headscarf correctly. We remember Mahsa Amini, who was killed for the same reason and whose sacrifice sparked off the protest demonstrations of the women of Tehran.
